Unveiling of the identity of École des Hautes-Plaines

Calgary, November 1, 2023 – Conseil scolaire FrancoSud is proud to officially unveil the new identity of École francophone d’Airdrie, The school now bears the name École des Hautes-Plaines (High-Plains School).

With the announcement in March 2023 of the construction of a second French-language school in Airdrie, it was important that this school adopt a distinctive identity of its own. This unveiling is the result of a consultation process with students, families and school staff.

The name Hautes-Plaines refers to the topography of the territory where the school is located. The latter is located on a plateau of approximately 1100 meters above sea level, surrounded by plains which form the beginning of the Canadian prairies and the beginning of the Rocky Mountains.

Historically, the plains have played an important role in the development of our societies. They are welcoming places that provide rivers, fertile land for agriculture, grazing for livestock, and flat expanses suitable for the establishment of towns. The plains are also places of exchange and sharing with significant importance.

Like the plains, our school aims to be a place open to the world, which promotes the development and fulfillment of the French-speaking community. With the support of our staff, students can take root there to learn, explore their interests and grow as humans.

Towards the west, it is possible to see the Rocky Mountains from our schoolyard. We like to think that this is a constant reminder of the unlimited potential of our students, and that with the right support, it is possible for them to reach the greatest heights.

The new school logo represents these characteristic elements of the plains: yellow for the vast expanses of plantations, blue for the rivers’ water as well as the mountains that we see in the distance. The bottom of the logo, in the shape of a point, refers to a location marker: École des Hautes-Plaines aims to be a central place for the French-speaking community of Airdrie, a place where it is possible to meet and to exchange.
